I wanted to write a brief update on my participation at the World Weightlifting championships. I placed 23rd in my weight class in spite of challenging travel and organizational circumstances. I was the first women to represent and compete for Pakistan in weightlifting and I hope to do so for future international competitions. I learned a lot from this experience, got to meet a lot of awesome people, and was honored to have the opportunity to compete at Worlds with other high level and awe inspiring competitors.

There was a lone voice from the USA at Worlds who negatively questioned my presence there, but everyone else I met from the USA and other countries were very kind and supportive. I hope that my participation will at least help encourage other women to compete in sports.

I especially want to thank those who sponsored my trip. The donations really helped as my efforts to train, share my story and handle almost all competition logistics myself take up the majority of my time.

I am writing up a detailed blog post of my experience at Worlds and my pictures up soon. Please add me on Twitter or Facebook to be updated on that.
